Politics
Concentration
Overview
The Politics concentration focuses on leadership within the political arena. Emphasis is placed on American politics and contemporary political thought although many principles and examples studied may have wider applicability. Students in this concentration will become familiar with the history of the American political system, the US Constitution, our federal system of government, separation of powers, the party system, electoral system, and the impact of U.S. foreign policy on other nations and organizations. The distinctive part of studying politics and leadership at Carolina University is our unique ability to meld theory with practice in ways that few institutions can. Critically, Carolina University has faculty who have been leaders in the political arena in the U.S. and other countries, and they bring real-world perspectives to the study of politics and leadership. This provides a highly valuable perspective for students regardless of whether they are interested in the academic aspects of politics or are seeking positions in politics, policymaking, or the public sector.
